Doha’s new port attracts tourists

With its multicolored buildings, lush green lawn gardens and granite sidewalks, Doha’s Old Port is getting a makeover to welcome tourists during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Local Arab daily Arrayah reported that work to develop the port area into a tourist marina has been completed by replacing the street’s asphalt layer with granite and creating a park.
The works included the construction of the harbor area while providing visitors with many services including a commercial market, fish market, retail outlets, restaurants and cafes, a hotel, berths for boats and ships and cycle and pedestrian paths. In addition, the port has a terminal to receive large cruise ships.
At an estimated cost of QR 2 billion, the Doha Port Development Project aims to attract local and international tourists from neighboring countries on cruise ships. Destined to become a pioneering facility of the highest international standards, the port is expected to secure Qatar’s position as a tourist destination while facilitating the expected growth in cruise numbers during the World Cup.
It is expected that Doha Port will soon become a permanent facility to receive cruise ships while becoming a tourist attraction in central Doha. With the development project completed and the port’s capacity increased to accommodate two giant ships at the same time, Qatar is expected to attract 500,000 visitors through cruise ships by 2026.
