From sunsets to whale watching, NJ’s specialty cruises have it all

Summer in New Jersey, nothing like it. Whether the Garden State is your place to vacation, stay, or just the occasional trip to the theme parks or the beach, nothing really beats the summer season.

As the warmer months go by, you may be trying to think of something different to do. Our state may be small, but there is so much here within our borders.

Here’s an idea if you like being in open water. Scattered along a handful of New Jersey waterways, ferry rides and specialty cruises are just waiting for you to board them. One of them is located along the northern part of Monmouth County.

With ports located in the Highlands, Atlantic Highlands and Sandy Hook, Seastreak Ferry offers a handful of specialist cruises. And yes, they even celebrate holidays like the 4th of July with a fireworks cruise.

One of my favorite cruises is their sunset cocktail cruise from their port in the Highlands to lower Manhattan. The views are absolutely amazing and it was perfect to bring the whole family.

Here’s a look at one of their sunset cocktail cruises in 2021. Trust me, these photos don’t do it justice.

As amazing as this cruise is, it’s not the only thing they offer. Whale watching is another of the many specialty cruises offered in the Garden State.

Of course, Seastreak isn’t the only ferry service in and around the Garden State that offers specialty cruises. If you live near one of New Jersey’s major waterways, chances are there’s some kind of service not too far from you. But even if you don’t live near a waterway, these types of cruises are definitely worth the trip.
