A FISH store has received an award from the Royal British Legion.
Oliver’s Fish and Chips in Old Basing has received an award from the Old Basing Royal British Legion in recognition of the support the store has given to the charity.
The fish and chips shop was nominated and won the award for best branch support business in Hampshire at the county conference in January.
The shop has been nominated by Hampshire Golf Club Secretary Rick Bourne for its continued support of the Royal British Legion, including offering vouchers as prizes for fundraising golf days.
Rick said: ‘I’ve been running Poppy Appeal fundraising golf days for many years here and have often asked Oliver if they could donate a voucher to use in their restaurant for our raffle or auction following the day of golf prize giving.

“These events have raised many thousands of pounds over this period, so without generosity such as that provided by local businesses, particularly Oliver’s, this may not have been possible.”
Fishmongers Neil and Fiona Johnson officially received a certificate framed by Royal British Legion Old Basing Branch President Ian Greenway.
Neil said they were “proud to have received this recognition”, and that the certificate would be immediately posted on the wall of the restaurant adjoining the fish market, for all to see.
Fiona said: “I was very happy and I was very happy for everyone working here too because they are a really great team.
“It’s not just two people, there’s a whole team involved in this project, working hard and doing their part.

“It’s not just me and Neil who want to take the credit, it’s all of Oliver’s staff, all of whom play a part in one way or another.”
The RBL is not the only charity supported by Oliver.
The shop has also supported St Mary’s Church, The Friends of Old Basing and Cancer Research UK, among others.
Fiona continued: “We do a lot, on the charity side.”
The Best Supporting Company award was a new category of awards for the Royal British Legion in Hampshire, with the Old Basing branch seeing it as a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate Oliver’s generous support.
