The Aldi Shrimp article that caused a stir on Reddit

Redditors are good at crying foul when they spot something rotten in the state of their favorite grocery stores. One such whistleblower is an Aldi shopper and alleged seafood lover who goes by the Reddit handle @NoShayminTrying. They job in Aldi’s subreddit something they deemed downright despicable – a bag of frozen prawns that claimed to be “peeled and deveined” but in fact weren’t.

The photo released by the OP showed the open bag from the manufacturer Fremont Fish Market, one of Aldi’s seafood brands, with some of the contents spilling out. A few of the prawns showed that they weren’t deveined at all, some that were ineffectively deveined. This prompted a cavalcade of horrified responses from other Redditors – and is a possible reason to stop buying seafood from Aldi.

“SOMEBODY didn’t do a good job of deveining!” I would return it and trade it. I have this shrimp all the time and I’ve never seen it like this before! said a shocked commenter. “Good! I always had this problem with aldi frozen prawns,” said another. A third claimed: “It’s been like this every time I buy the frozen bags from aldi unfortunately. I have much better luck with raw prawns than they have with salmon but you can’t always find them.”

The short answer for anyone looking to throw a shrimp at the barbie is to check that they have been peeled and deveined first.
